Francesco Morelli (1941-2017)

Francesco Morelli was a keen businessman who had the brilliant idea to establish the Europe Institute of Design in 1966 at the age of just twenty-four, after exploring various career avenues.

The Institute was intended as a new kind of school dedicated to design, fashion, and the visual arts, combining knowledge and expertise.

Thanks to his tenacity, combined with his ability to think outside the box, Francesco Morelli was so successful that he became a pioneering figure in the fields of design and Made in Italy.

Today, IED is an international group with ten campuses in Italy, Spain and Brazil. In addition, its network, which constantly gives new impetus to design teaching, comprises young people from all over the world, who are forging new and meaningful career paths.
"I believe that young people require more than just tools and culture; they also need to be encouraged to look out of the window and see. Seeing, in this context, means thinking, creating, and planning. Accomplished work is not only personally fulfilling but also contributes to the greater good."

"I wish to gift the future an IED that always places students, the real driving force behind our efforts, at the centre of its thinking. Our focus should be on guiding young people into a galaxy of opportunity, extending beyond their local communities to encompass the whole world"
